Welcome to Bill D's corner of the net

This website will cover some of my hobbies.  I have been into 3D modelling and rendering, attempted to fly radio controlled helicopters, and even played around with robotics. Nowadays I am into Astro Photography. As it turns out this is my most expensive hobby yet. Having said that I enjoy it alot as it is also one of the most challenging.

3D Modelling & Rendering
This page contains various images that I created using Imagine and Truespace

The images below represent a cross section of artwork I have actually completed, dating right back to the 1980's. I make no claims of being an artist. Consider them doodles.

The first two are probably the only images I am really happy with. The first one, a winning entry in the Imagine rendiring competition in July 1988. The second was a slight remake of the same image.

This is my entry to the July 98 Imagine Rendering Competition. The theme for the competition was Metals and Checks.
I am happy to say that this image won first prize.

As with most works of art, this was not quite what I had pictured in my minds eye when I started. But I had to go with it due to a fast approaching deadline and a very long rendering time (I think I had a 450 MHz Pentium when I created this).

This is a second version of the competition image. It was more like the affect I wanted to achieve originally but due to the overheads of longer rendering times, I could not implement these changes until after the competions. The containers are now made of glass. To me this adds a lot more detail and realism to the whole scene.

This was an old time favourite game when I was a child. As you can see, it's a dedication to the game Mousetrap. This was one of my favourite modelling projects.
This is a work in progress although 3D modelling is on hold at the moment due to time constraints.

Building the objects for this image was an excellent learning experience, as each piece requires a new technique. Its a great way to learn how to use the modeller in a 3D package

I am planning on animating it in the future. I have decided to wait for the new version of Lightwave before doing so. That way I can use the project to 'test out' the new interface.

This is a rendering of an object I created when a friend of mine got into a 'Lost In Space' mood.
I put a fair amount of detail into the object and had have grand visions of doing an animation, but I haven't quite got around to doing that yet. For some silly reason my employer expects me to do programming work for him instead of playing around in 3D ....go figure!
