Welcome to Bill D's corner of the net

This website will cover some of my hobbies.  I have been into 3D modelling and rendering, attempted to fly radio controlled helicopters, and even played around with robotics. Nowadays I am into Astro Photography. As it turns out this is my most expensive hobby yet. Having said that I enjoy it alot as it is also one of the most challenging.

Thanks for taking the time to find out a bit about me.

Profession

I have been in the IT industry for a very very long time. Currently I am a software developer for a computer company in Australia. We specialise in developing business solutions in C#, VB and MS Access as also develop Palm based applications.

Nowadays I leave most of the programming to the younger guys. I tend to be more involved in design, technical writing, optimising SQL server queries, QA testing, etc. I specialise in automated testing systems, designing user interfaces and technical writing.
As well as my full time job, I have also written various utilities that utilise strong encryption, FTP communications, data management, and communications applications etc.

My Hobbies

Astro Photography

This is my current all consuming pass time. I am very new to what is quite a complex and expensive hobby. You will find a link on the main menu relating to this hobby.

Ray Tracing

I spend a lot of time playing around with Caligari- Truespace on the PC. No commercial projects, it's just for fun. I also own lightwave, which I really like. Prior to switching to Lightwave, I used  Imagine for many years..going back before the days of the PC.

Nowadays I run Truespace and lightwave on a multicore processor with 4 gig of ram RAM and way, way too much hard disk to organise.

Wing Chun Kung Fu

I almost deleted this entry when I updated the page, but I used to practice the martial art of Wing Chun. This is a form of Kung Fu developed in China. It focuses on the fastest, most efficient and practical ways to disable your opponents. I preferred this style of martial art to the more traditional styles as it tends to focus specifically on direct fighting techniques rather than 'flowery' forms.

Snooker

I wouldn't say I was great but I like playing it. When I was a member of a club I was lucky enough to get some tips from and play against the now great players: John Higgins and Mark Williams who came to our local club for an exhibition match just before they one the Asian Championships as semi pro's and became really famous. They were amazing to watch at the time, in One night I 13 century breaks. One of them they were racing each other running around the tables.
Unfortunately our club eventually closed and I have not played snooker for a very long time. I have lost a bit of my skill now. I had a go recently and my sites must be broken :-(, the cue ball would not go where it was supposed to.. (After playing the worlds best, I could not go any further so I hung up my cue) Just kidding!
